We (Robyn & Steve) began our involvement in dogs with our first German Shorthaired Pointer in 1981, from the Seelenmeyer kennel. This male puppy went on to become Australian Champion Seelenmeyer Bruno (Max). Following 12 months later was the purchase of our foundation bitch, Australian Champion Burnbrook Quilla Q.C (Quilla). Quilla was a black & white from the first litter born in Australia by Vassal Vom Niestetal (IMP Germany), from the renowned Burnbrook kennel in Western Australia…from this point on, we were hooked!
We registered the Woodwych prefix in 1983, and shortly after this we bred our first litter by Australian Champion Burnbrook Othello. We bred a number of litters which produced successful competitors in both field, retrieving & obedience trials, followed by many successes in the show ring. Our first Best Exhibit In Show winner was Australian Champion Woodwych Top Hat ‘N’ Tails (Monty) who was also a Royal Show Best Exhibit In Group winner, Speciality Runner Up Best In Show winner, and multiple All Breeds Best In Show winner.
Our daughter Lauren joined our prefix in 1997 at the age of 14, and soon became the main handler for Woodwych GSP’s. At this stage Lauren went into partnership with Nick Gouzos (Boardbadger Miniature Smooth Haired Dachshunds), in owning her first dog in her own name. He went on to become Australian Champion Boarbadger Havoc (Bobby). Bobby was also a Royal Show Best Exhibit In Group & Puppy In Show winner, as well as being the Dogtainers Puppy Of The Year 1998.
Since then we have bred multiple All Breeds & Speciality Best In Show & Runner Up In Show winners, Royal Show Challenge & Best of Breed winners, numerous Australian Champions, 2 Grand Champions, and 2 Supreme Champions.
Our dogs have also won Best Exhibit In Show at 3 of the 11 Australian GSP National Breed Specialities.
Best In Show in 2008 was Gr Ch Woodwych Mustang Sally, and Best In Show in 2012 was her son, Sup Ch Woodwych Tommy Hilfiger. Most recently, Best In Show at the 2017 National was Woodwych Joie De Vivre - a Tommy daughter/Sally grand daughter. Paris is a 3rd generation National winner.
At both the 2012 & 2017 Nationals, we were awarded both Challenges – the 2012 Bitch Challenge winner was (also out of Sally) – Ch Woodwych The Perfect Storm. The 2017 Dog Challenge winner was Ch Woodwych Hot Off The Press.
Steve is a licensed All Breeds Dog Judge, and Lauren has her license to judge Group 3 (Gundogs), Group 4 (Hounds), and Group 6 (Utility Dogs), and is a trainee for Groups 2 (Terriers), 5 (Working Dogs) & 7 (Non-Sporting Dogs)
